Book #121

Hi There!
I just finished book number 121 which was Beyond The Summerland By L. B. Graham. This is the first book in The Binding Of The Blade series and I must say, I can not wait till I get to read the next one. A Friend of mine gave me this book and told me I HAD to read it, I'm so glad I did.
Let me just tell you this though, this book is really, really long. It is so worth reading though, once you start reading it you can't put it down. You just have to see what happens next. In this book there is a lot of action and adventure but there is also love mixed in. While reading this book you will find yourself guessing as to what is going to happen next and if you are anything like me you will want to peek ahead and see what happens. Don't Do It!  First off, if you do peek ahead it will ruin the ending. Secondly, the ending will make no sense at all without reading the middle. So just sit back and read the whole book. No peeking ahead!
I'm not going to review this book mainly because it is so long and very detailed. I wouldn't give this book the justice it deserves. So I will just say this, This book is Amazing and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Christian Fantasy books. So if you like that kind of book (or don't) I think you will love this book! Happy Reading!<3

Book #106

Hi everyone!  Sorry I haven't blogged in awhile. I have been reading books that are at the end of a series, so it is kind of hard to blog about them without giving too much away.
Anyway, book number 106 was Deep In The Heart Of Trouble by Deeanne Gist.
Yeah another Deeanne Gist, I can't help it I just love all her books! This book is no different, I loved it just as much as all her other books.  This is a book that sucks you in and you can't put it down till you finish.

Deep In The Heart Of Trouble  is set in Corsicana, Texas in the year 1898.
Essie Spreckelmeyer is the town spinster and has given up trying to find a husband. After all she is 34. She believes that she won't ever find a husband anymore, so she embraces her spinsterhood. She does have quite a reputation for riding her bike, snake hunting, beating everyone at checkers and doing anything else with all the teenage boys in her small town in Texas.
Essie's father has been the judge in Corsicana for more then 10 years. Their town has turned out to be an oil boom town. Judge Sprecklemeyer owns the biggest oil company in town, and he lets Essie run the company.
Tony Morgan's father just died, leaving his whole oil company to his step-brother, half of which is rightfully Tony's.  Tony's step-brother takes it all in stride and kicks Tony out of the house.
Tony decides he's going to go get a job at the next biggest oil rig in Texas, Sprecklemeyer Oil Company.
The first time Tony sees Essie is when he is standing on her porch about
to knock on the door when he spots a person at the top of the stairs straddling the banister and slide down. Tony can't believe he just saw a woman and a pretty one at that just slide down the banister. When she sees him standing there she is totally embarrassed, after all this tall very handsome man just saw her slide down the banister!
This is the type of book that will make you laugh and cry and be totally mad at the same time. It is a really good book by an awesome author!   Happy Reading!(:

Book 100!!! :D

Hey Guys!
As you can see from the title I just finished book #100! :)
So book 100 was House by Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti. I have read House before,  in fact it was the first book I had read by Dekker.  Let me tell you, I was hooked after reading this book.
I have read as many of Dekker's as I can get ever since.  I don't know. It's just something about the way he describes everything, and in great detail too. He has a way of making the story jump out of the book and making you feel like you are really living out the story.  I admit when I first read this book I slept with the light on for a week, but the book was so good.
There is really no way of describing this book without giving a lot away, but i will try my best.

Jack and Stephanie Singleton were traveling on the back roads of Alabama. When all four their tires get slashed, they get out of the car to look at the damage and see a sigh for the Wayside Inn.  They think since it is getting dark they will go stay there for the night and call a tow truck in the morning.
They get to the Inn and meet Randy Messarue and Leslie Taylor. The owners are nowhere in sight. They find out that Randy and Leslie's tires were slashed just like theirs. When Betty the owner's wife finally shows up, the power goes out. She seems nice enough to Jake. Then she starts ordering them all to get ready for dinner. They all go wash their hands and return to the dining room, where they meet Stewart (the owner) and Pete (the owner's son).
Dinner does not go well.  Pete can't stop staring at Leslie. Randy had already met Stewart in the bathroom and they are not getting along. Betty keeps asking Stephanie if she wants more ice and Jack can't help but notice that there is something wrong with the food.  Just then they look down at there food and its crawling with maggots.  Stephanie screams and runs out of the house only to have them all follow her and have them all stop and the door and stare. What they see is a man in a black trench coat holding a shot gun and wearing a tin mask with two holes cut out for his eyes, eyes that are just as black as his coat.  Betty screams at Stephanie to come back in the house that its him. She runs back in the house and Betty locks all the doors and tells everyone to go in the living room.  They are all scared by this point, they don't know what is going on when the hear something like a tin can rattling.
They all look toward the fire place and see a tin can fall into the fire place.  Jack goes over to it picks it up and sees that there is writing on it. When he Reads it to they start to panic.
"House Rules"
1. God came to my house and I killed him.
2. I will kill anyone who comes into my house like I killed God.
3. Give me one dead body I might let rule #2 slide.
You have till dawn."
One Game. Seven Players. Three Rules. Game Ends at Dawn.

This book is a thriller that will keep one on the edge of your seat till you finish. I hope you read it, and if you do you will have to message me and tell me how you liked it.
Happy Reading!<3

Book #93

Hi There!
Book number 93 was Maid to Match by Deeanne Gist.  Let me just say Deeanne Gist is one of my all time favorite authors. She has a way of making you feel like you are in the book. She describes everything in all her books so well, her books have a way of sucking you in and you can't put the book down until you finish. Then you have to read the book again because it was so good. :)

Tillie is a parlor maid at the Biltmore Estate, although she is very excited that she is in the running to be Mrs. Vanderbilt's lady's maid.
Tillie has dreamed for a long time of becoming a lady's maid. If she is chosen she will be able to travel, wear fancy clothes and get paid more then a normal maid. The only thing is, lady's maids are not allowed to get married.  Tillie didn't see this as a problem that is until she meets Mack.
Mack is hired for one reason. He has an Identical twin brother Earl, and they are both tall and very good looking.  Mrs. Vanderbilt will be the talk of the town when people see that she has identical footman. Only thing is Mack has no desire to be a footman. Mrs. Vanderbilt enlists Tillie to train Mack to become a proper footman and to tame his wild temper.  Tillie is not really happy that she has to train Mack on top of doing all of her other duties, but as time goes on and she gets to know Mack she begins to look forward to spending time with him; but if Tillie wants to be lady's maid she can't let anything not even Mack get in her way.

As Tillie and Mack are faced with new problems you will feel like you just want to jump in the book and give them both a hug and say everything will be all right in the end.  You begin to feel like Tillie and Mack are your best friends and when the book is over you just have to read it again and again.
This is a book that you could read a 100 times and still want to read it again. If you are a sap you will cry at least once. Trust me, I did.   I hope you will read this book sometime and let me know if you feel the same way I do about it.  Happy Reading! <3

Book #78

Hey There!
I guess you noticed that I skipped a few numbers. Well I decided to not to do a review on all of the book I read.  Just the ones that I really liked or the one I really didn't like.
(i don't think there will be many i didn't like).

Anyway, Book #78 was Jordan's Star by Gilbert Morris.
This book is about a young girl named Jordan. She lives with parents and three siblings, and they live in Missouri.  Jordan has always dreamed of going west.  She is offered a wonderful opportunity to go west on a wagon train to Oregon. She jumps at the chance and goes with them.
This book isn't just about Jordan though, as they head west the story unwinds about the people that become family on the journey west.
As you read the book the story keeps jumping back and forth to different people on the train.  As you learn about other people and their story you begin to love them all as if you have known them your whole life, but then again there is a few who you want to jump in the book and tell the wagon master what they did and get them thrown off the train.
As they journey west love sprouts up all over the place.
Young love, older love and some forbidden love.  As you learn about the drinkers and the prayers, you begin to wonder who will stay close together and who will give up.  Along they way they pick up wagons that other trains had dumped,  either because they couldn't keep up, some one got sick or just because people didn't like them. You just begin to see them all as family, or really close friends.  You will Love all the family's on the train.  Once they get to Oregon they stay a tight community, but they aren't the same people that left Missouri months ago.  Death, Tragedy and life on the trail has made them strong and willing to work for their claims.   All together this was a good book.  Gilbert Morris is a good story teller.  He is one of my favorites.
Hint, learn people's names and remember what family they are from. It will help. If you like books that have lots of story's and characters you will really like this one.
Happy Reading! <3

Authors

Hey Guys!

I'm in the middle of a book right now that is taking me forever to read, so I thought I would write about authors.
Whenever I find an author I like I try and get as many of their books as possible, but sometimes some of their books aren't as good as the first book you read by them.  I have this problem a lot of times.
Lets say you are in love with Kiss by Ted Dekker, but you think The Bone Man's Daughter by Ted Dekker is the worst book ever, So you think, "I bet all of his other books will be like this".
From what I have learned, most authors have that one book that you don't like. There are many reasons you might not like that one book, Maybe it is the setting or that it didn't seem to flow well, and maybe it just seemed boring.... So you should give it another chance and read a different book by that same author.
Never judge a book by its author.

This might be just me, but I like to look up the author before I start reading the book, or go to Amazon.com and read the book reviews.  I know it helps me decide if I want to read the book or not.
Anyway, The point of this post is to help you find authors that have lots of good books that I think you will enjoy.
I have a list of some of my favorite authors here on my blog.  If you haven't already read it, it is on the right side of the screen under my bookshelf.  I would love to hear from you about authors that you would recommend.  Hope I helped you out a little.

Happy Reading! <3

Book #72

Hi All!

The Bride Collector by Ted Dekker was book number 72! :)
If you don't already know this about me I'm in Love with Ted Dekker! I have 18 Ted Dekker books and that isn't even all of his books! I was super excited to read this book, and I wasn't disappointed in the least. I personally think this is one of Dekkers best. All of his books are very fast pace and very suspenseful.
This book takes you on a journey with FBI special agent Brad Raines and his partner Nikki, while they are trying to catch a serial killer that has killed four young girls. The killer leaves no finger prints, no boot prints, not even a hair, all he leaves for the FBI is The girl and a bridal veil covering her face.
With not much for the FBI to go on they are checking every lead they get, and one of those leads them to The Center for Wellness and Intelligence.  Thats where they meet Paradise. With Paradises help they hope to solve this case as soon as possible. Little do they know that the case is about to take a very personal turn.
If you like books that will keep you on the edge of you seat, you won't be able to put this book down till you finish it.

Happy Reading!

Back to January

Hi there!

I thought I would explain a little more about why I decided to count all the books I read in 2011.
In December of 2010 I was sitting at home reading a book, (I can't even remember what book).
and I thought to myself "I wonder how many books I have read this year?" I couldn't even remember what I had read the month before.  I started to wonder how many books I had read in 2010, I still can't remember.
So I decided that in 2011 I would count every book I read.  On January 1, 2011 I started reading Blessed Child by Ted Dekker. When I finished it I began a journal where I number and write my thoughts about every book I read. So far I have 71 entries in my little book journal.
I was talking to my Dad about it sometime in January and he suggested that I write a note on Facebook for every book I read. I thought to myself that I would most likely just annoy all my friends because of all the new notes I would be writing.  So I just kind of put that thought on the back burner.
My Dad kept encouraging me to write a note on face book or start a blog.
I didn't really know if I even wanted to start writing a blog, because I didn't really know what to say about the books I read.  I wasn't even sure if people would want to read it, and once again just pushed aside the idea.

One day in this month I was talking to my Dad about what the count was up to, and he said "I still think you should write a blog, I think people would enjoy reading it."  I finally agreed, and asked my Mom to show me how to blog.  Later that day we all sat around brainstorming about what to name my blog. Thanks to Holly we came up with The Random Reads of a Brown Girl. So here I am!
Now when you see a number beside a book review you'll know why that number is there.
Thank you Daddy for encouraging me to do this and thanks to you Mommy for showing me how. I Love you both!

Happy Reading!! <3

Book #71

Hi All!

Book #71
I just finished The Measure of a Lady by Deeanne Gist.

This is an Awesome book!  I love the way the Deeanne writes, she makes you feel like you're in the book. It was as if I were transported back in time to the crowded streets of San Francisco in the middle of the gold rush.
All her books feel very real. When you finish one of her books you feel like your best friend is moving away and you can't wait till you see them again, so you just have to read it again.
This is one of those books where you can cry every time you read it even though you have read it half a million times.

The Measure of a Lady is a nice easy read.
If you like a book that will make you cry, laugh, and say"Aww", then you will love this book!

Happy Reading!

About Me

Hi Everyone!

My name is Abbie, I'm 14 and I love to read!
Since the beginning of 2011 I have counted all the books I have read.
My Dad has encouraged me to write a blog about all the books I have read.  So far I have just been writing down in a notebook the information about the books I have read. My dad kept telling me I should write a blog. So I finally gave in and said "Yes, I will start a blog".

So the point of this blog is for me to write about books I have read, and random thoughts I have on the book, and to recommend books that I think every one should read(:

This year I have read 70 books...
(i told you i like to read).
Anyway, I don't have a favorite book, there are way too many good books out there to choose one as my all time Favorite.

I would Love to hear from any of my readers (if I have any) about books they have read and/or their favorite book(s)!

Happy Reading!
